Are you ready for the adventure?
Here’s the route to the summit of Mount Meru in Tanzania. The most popular route to the summit is through the Momella Gate. The route takes about 3-4 days and is approximately 52 km long. The first day consists of a 3-4 hour hike through the rainforest to Miriakamba Hut, which stands at an altitude of 2,500m.
The rainforest is home to a variety of exotic birds, monkeys, and other wildlife. The hike is relatively easy and is a great way for hikers to acclimatize to the altitude. Miriakamba Hut offers comfortable accommodation and is an excellent place to rest and prepare for the next day’s hike.
On the second day, hikers will embark on a 5-7 hour hike through the heath and moorland zone to Saddle Hut, which stands at an altitude of 3,570m. This part of the climb is quite steep, and hikers are advised to take their time and acclimatize to the altitude. The heath and moorland zone is home to a variety of unique plants and wildlife, including giant lobelias and hyraxes.
Saddle Hut is a basic but comfortable accommodation that offers hikers a chance to rest and prepare for the final ascent to the summit. The hut is located in a beautiful valley and provides hikers with stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
On the third day, hikers will ascend to the summit at 4,566m. The climb takes about 4-6 hours and is quite challenging. Hikers are advised to start early in the morning to avoid the hot sun. The final ascent involves climbing steep and rocky terrain, but the reward is well worth the effort.
At the summit, hikers will be treated to panoramic views of Tanzania’s landscape, including Mount Kilimanjaro, the Serengeti Plains, and Lake Manyara. It is an unforgettable experience that is sure to leave hikers in awe of Tanzania’s natural beauty.
The descent takes about 2 days, with one night spent at Saddle Hut and another night spent at Miriakamba Hut. The descent route is the same as the ascent route. Hikers are advised to take their time on the descent and enjoy the stunning views of Tanzania’s landscape.
For our adventurous customers, we offer a 3-day tour that requires the descent in one day.
We want to remind you to be physically fit and to have the appropriate gear for the climb. We also recommend that you climb with a licensed guide who can provide you with valuable information about the mountain and its surroundings.
In conclusion, climbing Mount Meru is a challenging but rewarding experience that provides hikers with stunning views of Tanzania’s landscape and wildlife. It is an adventure that is sure to leave you with unforgettable memories and a newfound appreciation for Tanzania’s natural beauty.
