Outstanding care and support to get you to the summit(s)

My sincerest thanks to Django Tours (Florian and Estella) and our fantastic guides Chacha, Kim, Daudi, the other assistant guides, the amazing porters and all the camp helpers, who organized and executed everything around and during this recent trip to Mt Meru and Mt Kilimaniaro! Before, between, and after the mountains, I stayed at Django’s Adventure Safari Lodge in Machame, a clean and simple quest house with the most beautiful lush valley just behind the property, …

Freedom

This year I went on Mount Meru, Safari and Kilimanjaro with Django.Tours.One of the first things that comes to mind when I think about the trip is: “Freedom”. A very special form of freedom: freedom from everyday life, the constraints of civilization with all modern achievements. On the hikes you are forced to deal with yourself…

Before you book

Before you plan your tour take a couple of considerations into account.

What do you want to see while being in East Africa?

Tanzania or also different countries?
What routes make sense as you have to pay immigration every time that you cross a borde?
What do you want to see in Tanzania?
Distances are huge and quick travel (via plane) somewhat expensive or takes for ever (via car).
Are you climbing any other mountains or want to relax at the ocean?
It might make sense to climb other mountains before Kili and relax after the climb.

How much time do you have?

Maybe it is necessary to cut down on a couple of activities in order to avoid stress. Tavel within Tanzania is time consuming even more so when you travel by car or public transport let alone crossing a border. If you consider to summit Kilimanjaro you might want to consider a couple of days of before you head into the next adventure.

What does your budget say?

Tanzania is a very poor country but (or as a result of that) Tourism activities are among the most expensive in Africa. Ask yourself what the different activities are worth to you. Invest wisely so you will have no regrets and enjoy your experience.

To buy, maintain or repair technical equipment is extremely expensive in Tanzania. When you can get the spare parts, often skilled professionals to handle them an not accessible.

Therefor you will often find purely maintained or broken equipment.
Keep in mind that often huge tips are expected that exceed 10% of the overall price.
When transport is involved often the pickup will be charged extra or the gas/petrol is not included.

We make sure to work only with local partners that we personally know and where we can agree the services promised. Often we go for the simpler solution to be cost conscious. And when you add more comfort it is often more expensive than elsewhere but guaranteed. We want to make sure that you receive exactly what you expect and have no additional costs.

When you plan the rest of your trip make sure to double check about hidden costs.

What is the best time for your stay?

Depending on what you want to visit and to see there are different time where it makes sense to visit Great Migration, Rainy Season, Dry Season, and some more. Normally April and May are the months with long rains and should be avoided. November is usually short rains but it is not often rains all day.

The best time for climbing Kilimanjaro is January to February and September. July to August can be colder and November to December can be wetter. January to March is the warmest months, almost clear of clouds each evening and morning.

Have you considered the equipment for hiking Kilimanjaro?

You can rent a lot of equipment from us, but it helps your comfort level when everything that you wear on your body is your own and worn in. Keep in mind that you will hike through all climate zones of Earth. You’ll start in a tropical rain forest and you’ll reach arctic temperatures on your summit. In between you’ll see everything from tropical gardens to deserts. Concerning the: time, route, length, guide & service package there is no need to know now. We will discuss all of this in our first call.
